OPERA INTERACTIVE - HANSEL AND GRETEL
A CHILDREN'S OPERA FROM OUR LIVING ROOM TO YOURS
When COVID-19 made it impossible for the planned in-school residency program to continue, the BWVP class of 2020 used ingenuity and creativity to presents a reimagined 30-minute version of their project: Opera Interactive, Hansel and Gretel. The children’s opera, performed in English translation from our living rooms to yours, encouraged students in the Pre-K through Grade 5 levels to participate in the art-making process through various interactive virtual opportunities to meet the characters, create visual art, and learn the children’s chorus via online workshop to participate in the streamed opera performance from home.
This project was presented as a modified version of the BWVP Senior Capstone, a student-led project to synthesize skills learned in the Performance Workshop sequence into a meaningful project that engages the community through the art of opera.
